FAQ’s
Q: What makes Makani Collective’s tiles different?
Think of our tiles like the wasabi of the design world — small, sharp, and impossible to ignore. Handmade by master artisans in Japan, each tile carries centuries of craftsmanship, unique glazes, and a meditative beauty that mass production simply can't imitate.
Q: Can I use your tiles in the UAE’s hot climate?
Absolutely. Our tiles have faced Japanese summers — they’re more than ready for the UAE sun. They're kiln-fired at high temperatures, making them highly durable, heat-resistant, and perfect for both indoor and outdoor use across the Gulf.
Q: Do you ship to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or across the GCC?
Yes, we do — all across the UAE, GCC, and the MENA region. From Jumeirah to Jeddah, Riyadh to Rabat, we’ve got you covered. And we pack them like fine art (because they are).
Q: Can I order samples before committing?
Of course — think of it as speed dating for surfaces. You can browse and order samples online to get a feel for the colour, texture, and magic before making any long-term commitments.
Q: Do you only sell tiles?
Tiles are our first love, but we also offer curated Japanese ceramics and custom design services. We're a bit like a concept store — but for people who like walls with soul.
Q: How long does it take to receive my order?
If it’s in stock, we can typically deliver within 5–10 working days across the UAE. For special orders, give us 6–8 weeks — great things (like good sushi or great design) take time.
Q: Are your tiles suitable for bathrooms and kitchens?
Yes — they’re not just a pretty face. Our tiles are glazed and sealed to resist moisture, heat, and splashes. They’re perfect for backsplashes, wet rooms, hammams — or anywhere you want a touch of wabi-sabi elegance.
Q: Are your tiles sustainable?
Yes. Our tiles are produced in small batches using traditional techniques that naturally minimise waste and energy. We work directly with Japanese kilns that prioritise ecological practices — no mass production, no shortcuts. Many of our tiles contain up to 60% recycled material, giving discarded clay and minerals a second life. It’s sustainability with soul — rooted in honesty, craftsmanship, and longevity.
Q: Do you work with designers or trade professionals?
We love working with the trade — interior designers, architects, and visionaries of all kinds. We offer trade accounts, custom solutions, and an endless supply of tile talk.
Q: Can I visit your showroom?
We currently operate by appointment only in Dubai — think of it as a quiet moment in a chaotic world. Reach out and we’ll happily book you in for a private design session with tea.
Q: How do I clean your tiles?
A soft cloth and gentle cleaner will do the trick. No harsh chemicals — these are artisan pieces, not gym floors. (But honestly, they’re tougher than they look.)
Q: Can I create a custom design or size?
Yes! We work closely with our artisans in Japan to develop custom colours, finishes, and formats for special projects. It’s a collaborative process — slow, deliberate, and always rewarding.
Q: What’s the story behind Makani Collective?
We’re two founders – one from Norway and the other from the UK – brought together by a shared love of craftsmanship, serene spaces, and cultural storytelling. 'Makani' means 'my place' in Arabic, and our mission is to help you create yours.
